About

The MSU Denver Breastmilk and Infant Formula Technician noncredit online certification course is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the necessary skills needed to pursue a career in preparing and distributing human milk, formula feedings, and maintaining formula labs in NICUs and/or pediatric floors of hospitals. Enroll and meet the demand for skilled professionals in the field of infant nutrition and make a meaningful impact.

Learners in this course receive training in aspects of proper human milk and formula preparation based on infant feeding guidelines from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, including:

About this Online Certification Course
The formula and breast milk technician certificate is a self-paced online course over four weeks. Students may complete the course as quickly as possible, or take up to four weeks. The certificate curriculum includes discussion boards, reading, projects, and quizzes. There is no formal exam for completion.

After completing the certificate, students are eligible to receive 1.6 continuing education units.

The Breastmilk and Infant Formula Technician Training course was developed by Jennifer Bolton, Ph.D., RDN to meet the growing need for trained professionals in infant formula preparation. Dr. Bolton is currently in her 17th year of teaching for the MSU Denver Department of Nutrition.

Schedule

The four-week course is entirely online and self-paced. Students may complete the class anytime within the four weeks the course is available.

The Spring course runs February 3 – March 3, 2025. Students must register by February 10, 2025.

Cost

The course is $475, with a $35 transaction fee per payment. No textbooks are required.

About the instructor

Jennifer Powell Bolton, Ph.D., RDN, developed and instructs the course. She created the Breastmilk and Infant Formula Technician Training to meet the growing need for trained professionals in infant feeding preparation. Dr. Bolton is an instructor for the MSU Denver Department of Nutrition, and has been a maternal and child nutrition professional and a clinical dietitian for over 20 years.
