About This Program

Are you the person who crosses a bridge wondering whether it could have been done better?

As an MSU Denver Civil Engineering Technology student, you’ll focus your Bachelor’s of Science degree on either construction or structural engineering. You’ll learn to apply engineering principles in the planning, design and construction of everything from highways and buildings to reservoirs and airports as well as projects that target environmental problems including wastewater collection and treatment facilities and environmental restoration.

MSU Denver’s Civil Engineering Technology degree program merges the analytic skills of the engineer with the practical skills of the technician to prepare you for any number of career paths. As a graduate, you will be a technologist and your career path could include construction, manufacturing, product design, testing or technical services and sales.

A degree in Civil Engineering Technology can also be your first step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). MSU Denver’s program prepares you to sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination. Then, with six years of experience working under a P.E., you will be eligible to take the P.E. exam in Colorado. For more information about the F.E. or P.E. click here.

MSU Denver offers scholarships to Engineering Technology students including several specifically for Civil Engineering Technology students.

Mission

The mission of the Civil Engineering Technology Program is to offer comprehensive education that enables students for a successful graduation, as well as opportunities for post-graduate education. Graduates shall have the ability for a successful entry as effective leaders into the engineering practice. Graduates are prepared to apply engineering principles in performing the many tasks for the planning and constructing of infrastructure, buildings, highways, railroads, bridges, dams, irrigation works, water systems, airports and other engineering projects.

Facilities & Resources

MSU Denver’s Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building (AES) offers an innovative approach to advanced manufacturing education by blending the disciplines of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Science, Aviation Technology, Industrial Design, Computer Science and Computer Information Systems.

This dynamic learning space integrates product development with collaborative design and research and provides students with advanced technology opportunities and experiential laboratories.

York Space Systems, an American aerospace company founded by alumni from NASA, Lockheed Martin, Orbital ATK and BAE Systems, houses its design team, production facilities and Mission Operations Center in the AES building, providing students in the coordinated disciplines unique learning opportunities and real-world experiences.

You can also take advantage of four active Engineering-related student groups (two that are specific to Civil Engineering) including the student branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
