School of Education General Fund

Purpose: To advance the mission of the School of Education in supporting students, advancing programs (involving the expansion and support of the curriculum and the School’s teaching mission), and impact/outreach (activities that directly benefit the schools and communities the School of Education serves and that communicates the mission of the School of Education).

Anna Jo Garcia Haynes Endowed Fund

Purpose: The Fund is established to sustain and build upon the legacy and impact of Anna Jo’s leadership and advocacy in early childhood education (ECE). The Anna Jo Garcia Haynes Endowment will create system-wide change in the state’s early childhood education ecosystem. Anna Jo deeply believes that parents and teachers are the best advocates because they are with children every day and understand their needs, potential, challenges, and promise more than anyone else.

Arlen M. Selu Special Education Memorial Endowment

Purpose: The Fund is established to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships for University students entering into the field of special education. The Arlen M. Selu Special Education Memorial Endowment was established by Arlen’s husband and Metropolitan State University of Denver alumnus, Eddy Reyes (‘97). Visit the giving page linked below to read more about Arlen.

Dr. Kathleen C. Luttenegger Legacy in Teaching Endowment

This scholarship was established to honor the incredible life and teaching legacy of Dr. Kathleen C. Luttenegger. Kathleen was a Full Professor in Elementary Education and Literacy at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She completed her BA at Mount Holyoke College, MA in Special Education from Columbia University, MBA with a focus on Educational Administration from the University of Denver, and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Kathleen was a National Board- Certified Teacher in the area of Middle Childhood (grades 2-5), Generalist. Her research interests included connecting field experiences with coursework for preservice teachers and formative assessment practices.

Dr. Rosemarie Allen Family Endowment

The Fund is established to provide scholarship to students majoring in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

This endowed scholarship is established by Dr. Rosemarie Allen and her husband, Don, to honor Dr. Allen’s 17-year career and educational legacy at Metropolitan State University of Denver. There is something special about the students that attend MSU Denver and more specifically, students of color wishing to enter into the field of teaching. Dr. Rosemarie Allen has experienced first-hand the barriers that prevent students from becoming licensed teachers and as a non-licensed teacher, she knew she made less than her peers. Providing financial support to students during their semester(s) of student teaching will ensure that the recipients do not need to drop out or go the route of non-licensure and can apply for higher paying jobs thus closing the equity/pay gap for educators of color. Increasing the number of teachers of color may also help to mediate problematic social trends and opportunity gaps in the schooling experiences of students of color. This endowed scholarship is established by an exceptional educator, faculty award-winner and community member to support the next generation of educators of color.

Praxis Pilot Program

The purpose of the Fund is to remove financial barriers for students entering the field of teaching so that they can meet the requirements for licensure and thereby help increase the diversity of the teaching workforce. Specifically, the Fund will address passage of required Praxis tests by combining payment of test fees with the provision of wrap-around services to students such as Praxis preparation workshops and related materials and supplies. Praxis test success and subsequent licensing will provide a measure of the effectiveness of the program.

School of Education Annual Scholarship Fund

Purpose: To support students in the Metropolitan State University School of Education during their student teaching experience.

Student National Education Association (SNEA)

Purpose: To provide financial support to any prospective student teacher seeking licensure at Metropolitan State University of Denver. (The student may be degree seeking, or just seeking licensure.) Preference given to SNEA members.

Kappa Delta Pi Student Scholarship

Purpose: To benefit high achieving students with financial need studying to become teachers in their student teaching phase. Preference is given to members of Kappa Delta Pi.

Trauma-Informed Practices Fund

Metropolitan State University Denver School of Education (MSU Denver), Resilient Futures, and the National Mental Health Innovation Center (NMHIC) are working together to build the capacity of teacher candidates to develop resiliency and understand and address trauma triggers in school environments with pre-school and school-aged children; and secondary trauma in themselves and their coworkers. New teachers will enter the workforce better prepared to address their own needs and the needs of the children and families they serve, instead of gaining this foundational knowledge “on the fly”, or after they have been in the field for many years.

Jack and Fran Kaufman Scholarship for Student Teaching established by Cecelia Box

The fund is established to provide financial support to students seeking professional teaching licensure during the semester of their full-time student teaching. This fund is in recognition of and hopes to alleviate the challenges and sacrifices students face carrying the full-time commitment of student teaching, which, for so many, conflicts with their ability to support themselves.
