Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion is accepting applications for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion faculty-fellow positions for tenured and tenure-track faculty members.
There are three positions available, and fellows can expect to work closely with the director for faculty diversity research and development under the direction of the vice president for Diversity and Inclusion. Fellows will administer programs and initiatives developed by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to advance the University’s Strategic Plan and the Diversity Strategic Plan with attention to faculty recruitment/retention, and resources and support for faculty development.
Fellows will work with the office to develop, maintain and assess a high level of centralized, comprehensive initiatives to promote and foster a diverse and inclusive climate within MSU Denver’s academic units and across the University. Emphasis will be on underrepresented and minoritized faculty representation, among other vulnerable populations.
Qualifications include:
- Theoretical foundation and/or practical experience in diversity in employment and/or educational centers.
- Experience in higher education, specifically related to civic engagement; diversity, equity and inclusion; or related field.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., word processing, databases, Access, Excel, etc.).
- Experience performing fundamental research activities to include qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Knowledge of and experience in current issues of diversity in education and on college campuses.
- Skills in program development and implementation.
- Excellent verbal, written and intercultural communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- MSU Denver faculty member with experience and interest in:
- Program development
- Higher-education administration
- Diversity implementation
- Student- or academic-affairs-related fields
Position 1: Faculty Development and Mentoring
- Develop curriculum and facilitate the Tenure Track Supper Club twice a semester.
- Facilitate faculty engagement with the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity membership (i.e., website development, email communications to faculty, media promotion, etc.).
- Facilitate Faculty Success Program participation.
- Facilitate Writing Challenge participation.
- Liaison with colleges/schools.
- Research and outline a University–wide faculty mentorship program.
- Collaborate on employee development with Faculty Development and Mentoring Fellow when appropriate.
- Participate on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
Position 2: Diverse Faculty Recruitment and Retention Scholarship and Practice
- Enhance knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher-education scholarship.
- Literature review of relevant scholarship focused on DEI issues in relation to higher– education faculty in collaboration with other Office of Diversity and Inclusion faculty fellows.
- Develop a database/website of resources for diverse faculty recruitment and retention.
- Identify scholarship to inform work with faculty on inclusive pedagogy, inclusion of DEI content in coursework and research into DEI issues.
- Liaison with colleges/schools.
- Participate in and support the work of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
Position 3: Staff Development (Collaboration With Human Resources)
- Collaborate with HR to develop and deliver culturally responsive-practices curriculum and training for staff.
- Inventory of culturally responsive-practices development at MSU Denver and accessible to MSU Denver.
- Launch and manage Equip pilot.
- Collaborate on employee development with Faculty Development and Mentoring Fellow when appropriate.
- Work with MSU Denver affinity groups to articulate recommendations for institutional support.
- Liaison with colleges/schools.
- Participate on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
Fellows will be provided a one–unit release time (three credit hours) per semester, and duties will take place through the upcoming academic year.
Letters of interest must be submitted to Chalane Lechuga, Ph.D., by June 28.
Letters should address how the candidate meets the qualifications and which fellow position(s) they are seeking and should be accompanied with a current résumé or CV.
