MSU Denver and the Auraria Campus will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 1.

Early acceptance to an MSU Denver nursing program is available to students currently in ROTC or equivalent active military program.

MSU Denver’s Department of Nursing offers one early admission spot in each Traditional (TNO) and Accelerated (ANO) cohort specifically for an ROTC or equivalent active military program applicant. A cohort is determined by option (TNO or ANO) and start date.

When to Apply

Applications are accepted throughout the year and evaluated on a rolling basis, first come first served, for future program start dates unfilled at the time. Applicants not offered early admissions for desired cohort may reapply for early admissions to a different cohort or apply through the general nursing application.

Steps to apply

Each applicant must complete the following steps.

  1. Apply to MSU Denver as a student (this is a free application) and receive an MSU Denver student ID number and email address.
  2. Receive approval from MSU Denver’s ROTC department or equivalent active military program and forward approval to [email protected]. Please ask your military program contact for assistance.
  3. Submit the Military – ANO/TNO Nursing Application for Early Admissions (this is a free application).
    • Your MSU Denver Network ID is the first part of your MSU Denver email address, the part before “@gxitma.net”.
    • Your password is the same as for your MSU Denver email.
  4. Meet ANO/TNO early acceptance minimum requirements. Each subsequent item is assessed only if the previous item is not represented.
    1.  Nursing prerequisite courses (3 or more) – 3.0 GPA
      • Visit TNO or ANO webpages for prerequisites.
    2.  College coursework (15+ credit hours) – 3.0 GPA
    3.  High school – 3.0 unweighted GPA
    4.  Alternative academic criteria

Students are encouraged to meet with the MSU Denver Pre-Nursing Advisor each semester prior to starting the nursing program. Please email [email protected] or call 303-615-1099 and ask to schedule an appointment with the pre-nursing advisor.

After early admission acceptance

Once an applicant is offered early acceptance, the applicant must retain a minimum of 3.0 GPA in all nursing prerequisite coursework to retain their spot. If the applicant falls below this minimum requirement, then the applicant forfeits their spot, and the spot reopens to other ROTC or equivalent military program applicants. Suppose no ROTC or equivalent military program applicant applies and meets the minimum requirements for a cohort by the time the general application closes for a specified cohort/start. In that case, the applicant’s spot will be filled by a general applicant.

Requirements to enter nursing program

Important: All ROTC or equivalent military program applicants who are offered early acceptance must complete a general nursing application (this is a free application) during the open application period for the cohort to which they are offered early admissions.

The application link is available during the open application period.

  • The TNO open application period is February 1 to April 1 prior to August start, and July 1 to September 1 prior to January start. Access the TNO application during the open application period.
  • The ANO open application period is July 1 to September 1 prior to January start. Access the ANO application during the open application period.

To retain their placement, early admitted applicants must continue to meet the minimum 3.0 GPA in nursing prerequisite courses and must score a minimum of 80% average on the HESI A2 (Admissions Assessment), 3 sections: Reading Comprehension, Math, Anatomy and Physiology.

Students must complete additional requirements before beginning the nursing program. For more information regarding the general nursing application and nursing program requirements and processes, please visit the ANO or TNO webpage.
