Are you ready to elevate your social work journey? The Phi Alpha Honor Society is your gateway to recognition and opportunities. Here’s how you can qualify and what to expect:

Eligibility for BSSW Students

To join the MSU Denver Epsilon Lambda Chapter, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:

  • Declared Social Work Major: You must be officially enrolled in the social work program.
  • Advanced Coursework: Complete at least 9 credits of 3000/4000-level social work courses.
  • Academic Excellence: Maintain a cumulative GPA that places you in the top 35% of all BSSW students at MSU Denver.

Eligibility is verified after the Fall Semester grades are posted, with induction ceremonies held in the Spring.

Eligibility for MSW Students

For our graduate students, eligibility requires:

  • Graduate Coursework: Completion of 9 credits in social work graduate courses.
  • Academic Excellence: Achieve a GPA in the top 35% of the MSW program students.

Like BSSW students, eligibility is confirmed after Fall Semester grades, with induction in the Spring.

The Membership Process

  1. Application: In January, Phi Alpha will send out an email inviting applications. Complete the Phi Alpha Online Membership Application and provide your degree progress report.
  2. Dues: A one-time membership fee of $30 will be paid for by the department upon your initiation.
  3. Induction Ceremony: Celebrate your achievement at the Phi Alpha Induction Ceremony during the Honors Celebration each Spring Semester. Members receive certificates of membership, graduation cords, pins, and a candle sent to them before the Induction Ceremony.
  4. Want some more Swag? Medallions, plaques, paperweights etc are available to purchase through the Phi Alpha National Website.

Get Involved

  • Leadership: Each year, Phi Alpha elects student officers who can serve multiple terms and transition between BSSW and MSW programs. All members vote for their Phi Alpha officers annually.
  • Community Service: To maintain membership, all members participate in the Phi Alpha community service project organized by Phi Alpha officers and members.

Building Allies of Diversity (BAD)

Mission

The Building Allies of Diversity Student Group strives to create a safe environment to have hard conversations about social justice, inclusivity, and diversity amongst the Metropolitan State University of Denver community of social work students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Purpose

The purpose of the Student group Building Allies of Diversity (BAD) is to create a safe environment for students, faculty, alumni, and community members to hold difficult conversations about social justice, inclusivity, and diversity. The group was formed on the foundation of CSWE core competencies with the goal of bringing students, faculty, alumni, and community members together to have conversations about current social, political, and cultural issues to encourage education and community involvement to create change. The BAD student group understands, the intersectionality between social, cultural, and political issues, and includes all three as important discussion topics. Our goal is to challenge oppressive views in society through education and conversations among people who may have different viewpoint
