Scholarships & Grants

To provide scholarships to benefit students enrolled in courses offered through the Gender, Women and Sexualities Studies Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver. 

Applicants must:

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
• Have a declared major in Women’s Studies or Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies
• Be enrolled for 6 or more credit hours for the semester the scholarship is received
• Meet MSU Denver’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
• DACA, ASSET, and Undocumented students are strongly encouraged to apply!

The Activist Endowed Scholarship is designed to support students who are actively engaged in efforts to support positive social change in economic and/or social justice.

Applicants must:

• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Have completed a minimum 15 credit hours
• Be engaged in community and/or campus activism
• DACA, ASSET, and Undocumented students are strongly encouraged to apply!
• Submit a two page essay that answers the question: When considering the multitude of issues facing the planet right now from creating peace to feminist concerns, LGBTQIA rights, racial and ethnic equality, human rights and the environment, what do you perceive as the most pertinent social justice concern and why? How have you endeavored to address this through your activist work, either on or off campus or both?

Migrant farm workers’ hard-won labor has fed our family and community all my life, so this scholarship is for them, especially the women who hold it all together. It comes with respect, gratitude and admiration for what migrant families have contributed to this nation and how they will change our future. Children of migrant farm worker families struggle fiercely for education and use their degrees to build a more just world. It is a pleasure to help them. The purpose of the scholarships are to annually benefit those, preferably women, with significant family responsibilities and a migrant worker family background. 

Applicants must:

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater
• Have a declared major
• Be registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours during the semester(s) the scholarship is received
• DACA, ASSET, and Undocumented students are strongly encouraged to apply!
• Write an essay of approximately 250 words explaining how significant family responsibilities and a migrant worker family background have shaped the candidate’s life and personal and professional goals.

The Pamela McIntyre-Marcum Memorial Scholarship is designed to provide scholarships that support students who have overcome issues of violence. 

Applicants must:

• Preference for the recipient to be woman-identified or gender non-binary student
• Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours
• Have confronted issues of violence
• Have demonstrated critical financial need, based on FAFSA
• Have demonstrated academic potential, as determined by the selection committee
• In an essay of 300 to 600 words, please share how you removed yourself from a violent situation, in as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with, as well as what you are doing to move forward in your life. Alternatively, if you are not able to tell your story right now, please share with us a story of a significant risk you have taken and how it has affected your life.
• DACA, ASSET, and Undocumented students are strongly encouraged to apply!

The Dr. Laura McCall Endowed Scholarship celebrates the life and passion of Laura McCall, beloved faculty member and family member. Laura’s unwavering commitment to creating opportunity through education, and to the power of understanding history and the contributions of women to changing the course of history, is recognized in this fund. This scholarship exists to provide scholarships to students pursuing a degree in History or Gender, Women and Sexualities Studies.

Applicants must:

The Kinnie Family Trust Degree Completion Scholarship is established to provide scholarships to assist students that have a history of domestic violence and are utilizing the resources available from the University’s Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy (GITA) department to assist them over the finish line so that they can obtain their degree. Scholarships can assist with covering tuition, books, and fees. designed to provide scholarships that support students who have overcome issues of violence. 

Applicants must:

• Preference for a student that identifies as Woman, Trans, or a Gender Non-binary individual.
• Be a Senior, in your last year before graduation.
• Have 2.5 cumulative GPA
• Be enrolled for at least 12 credits hours at the time the scholarship is received
• Have a history of domestic violence and be utilizing the resources/services available from the GITA department
• Upload a signed recommendation from a faculty or staff member within the GITA department
• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have financial need as determined by FAFSA/CASFA and the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

The Women’s Club of Denver Endowed Scholarship is established to provide financial assistance to dedicated students at Metropolitan State University of Denver majoring in Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies.

Applicants must:

• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid.
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Have a declared major in Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies.
